Delivering solutions that work for Architectural masonry
Brikmat systems: Testimonials
"From the early stages it was clear that it was a difficult job and had the potential to present a logistical nightmare! We're extremely pleased with the results that have been delivered using Brikmat, and would highly recommend it as a tool for even the most experienced bricklayers. It helped to facilitate a level of productivity and continuity, bringing us significant time (and cost) savings. This minimised the level of on-site disruption, which is especially significant when working on a school or college campus."
Harry Twizzell, Surgo Construction Site Manager: All Saints Community College Project
"Miller Homes were introduced to Brikmat in August 2004. We were attracted to the product for several reasons, and would class the following as significant benefits we believe Brikmat offers:
Ability to control corners (internal and external) bond, coursing and jambs/reveals.The use of heavy bricks (such as Staffordshire Blues) is made easier by being able to lay more courses at a time. Equally, the use of Forticrete and Ashlar type external face blockwork is made easier as more courses can be laid at a time. The bedding of joists, trusses and steelwork are assisted by not having to wait for the courses beneath to go off.Ultimately, the quality of workmanship should be better and more consistent thus a better end product to our clients. During the trial, we found the product to offer the above benefits and as such decided to progress to its use on the apartment scheme. It is also something that we intend to roll out on similar apartment type schemes."
Michael Dunthorne, Technical Manager, Miller Homes
"With Brikmat you don't change the way a bricklayer works. It helps you to keep gauge, it's cleaner on site in bad weather, and quicker when you are building corners and pillars. It is so simple to use and very good with stone and decorative work."
Len Worrall, Site Agent, Bett Homes
"By preventing the blocks from dipping during construction, Brikmat allowed my team to build five successive courses in a single shift without the fear of the mortar joints at a lower level being pressed out under the weight of the stone. This dramatically improved productivity on site, reducing the installation time by approximately 30 per cent which itself contributes to helping make significant cost savings as it reduced the amount of labour needed on the job. Brikmat also acts as a depth gauge which itself helps save on mortar and minimises waste.
This is a product for even the most experience bricklayer. Whilst it was at first regarded with some suspicion by our brickies on site, once they saw it being demonstrated the benefits spoke for themselves. Not only could they see how it would enable them to work faster and more accurately, it also promoted good workmanship that ultimately enhanced the overall quality and appearance of the finished blockwork. Using Brikmat was a resounding success for us, both as far as my brickies were concerned and, more importantly, the client, who has gone on to comment on the quality of the work. Brikmat is certainly a product I would use again on site, and I have already recommended it to colleagues working on another McAlpine scheme in Newcastle."
Jim Walker, Sir Robert McAlpine Site Manager: Northumbria University Development
"Brikmat reinforcement was extremely easy to use. Offering the same benefits as standard masonry reinforcement, Brikmat not only improves stability, it also prevents any dipping and floating, so blockwork can be constructed rapidly without the mortar leaking under the weight of the heavy concrete blocks. Furthermore, as well as enabling consistent accuracy, Brikmat has significantly increased productivity and allowed us to build up to three times faster."
Tim Butcher, Director, Ashland Building Contractors (Bryant Homes by Taylor Woodrow Site)
"The non-porous composition of the Ashlar blocks prevents adequate absorption of moisture from the mortar, so blocks literally 'slide' around on top of one another. By preventing the blocks from dipping and floating during construction, Brikmat allowed the team to build successive courses without the mortar being extruded under the sheer weight of the blocks, keeping uniformity of gauge.
Dramatically improving productivity to deliver significant time and cost savings, Brikmat was also extremely easy to use. We are delighted with the results, and would highly recommend Brikmat as a tool for even the most experienced bricklayers."

"Brikmat really compliments our Architectural masonry and Ashlar range of products. Enabling bricklayers to work faster and more accurately, Brikmat's greatest asset is its ability to support heavy dense stone and block work, allowing more than the traditional three or four courses to be built in a single shift without the fear of compressing the mortar joints at a lower level. More importantly, the use of this product enhances the overall appearance of Forticrete products."
Richard Kirk, Product Manager, Forticrete
"Across the skill range within the construction industry, Brikmat serves as a product which improves the quality and accuracy of the bricklaying process, and, ultimately, gives a consistent outcome. We are convinced that this product will assist in tackling the skill shortage in the bricklaying trade."
